While many college students are working average part-time jobs, Heidi Torregroza is out on the streets advertising for Red Bull, the highest-selling energy drink in the world.

She is part of the international company’s biggest marketing strategy – the Red Bull Wings Team.

One of eight female students on the team, she goes on ‘missions’ to bring the energy drink to target her peers at specific consumption occasions from tailgates to library sessions, she said.

“It’s been an unbelievable experience. I’ve gotten to do things I never would have gotten the chance without it,” she said.

Torregroza has been on the field at Red Bull’s biggest events such as their snowboard competition and their soccer season home opener.

As a team member, Torregroza hands out samples of the popular energy drink on campus.

While the job does not conflict with her class schedule, it requires a commitment of at least 18 hours per week, she said.

Her job counts on them to have positive interactions with the masses to expand production knowledge.

“This can be hard sometimes when people aren't interested but most of the time they are,” she said.

She was offered the job while at a sorority Meet the Sisters event last November.

“Even though I no longer have intentions of joining a sorority, I definitely think there’s a huge connection between this job and my future,” she said

“It has a direct connection to success reporting and many other positions in journalism and communications” she continued.

This experience is important to her as she plans to pursue a career that is people-oriented.

In the future, Torregroza hopes to work for a magazine like Complex Magazine working with sports or behind the scenes.

She has had this interest since high school.

Her experience in the sports journalism field includes her involvement with writing for doublegsports.com in high school.

With the website, she was given the opportunity to interview local athletes going into D1 programs.

Torregroza also had the chance to interview Karl Towns who was drafted out of his first year from the University of Kentucky to the NBA Minnesota Timberwolves.

That was my biggest high school accomplishment but working with the Red Bull Wings team has definitely been my biggest accomplishment to date, she said.
