RUTGERS STUDENTS PICK A BEACH
Rutgers students say like Long Branch the best.

Rutgers students selected Long Branch as their New Jersey beach of choice, according to a recent poll from patch.com.

The college students likely selected the beach as their favorite due to its close proximity to the State University of New Jersey.

“It’s just more convenient for me to go there rather than drive farther away for a beach that is just as nice as Long Branch,” Jarrett Bruno said.

Long Branch is just 34.4 miles from the State University of New Jersey and is only a 54 minute trip.

The primary way to travel to Long Branch is Route 18 which has exits directly connecting to all four Rutgers-New Brunswick campuses, students say.

Bruno, a Rutgers freshman from Ringwood, NJ, said he enjoys going to Long Branch with his friends and playing football on the beach.

He said he usually brings a cooler with food and drinks, a towel, and sunglasses.

Another reason for Long Branch earning the prize of the favorite beach among Rutgers students is its inexpensive prices, students say.

The admission fee for beach goers is $5.00 on weekdays and $7.00 on weekends according to newjerseyshore.com.
These prices are much cheaper than most beaches along the Jersey Shore.

According to newjerseyshore.com, Children ages 17 and under can enter the beach free of charge.
Long Branch also has a lot of good and inexpensive places to eat.

“There are so many places you can get food in Long Branch and you won’t break the bank doing it,” said Tom Powell.

Powell said that being able to go to the beach without worrying about how much money he will have to spend is a relief.

Long Beach Island was the second most popular choice for Rutgers students according to the poll.
Long Beach Island or LBI is a little further away from the Rutgers campus than Long Branch. Driving by car, the commute to LBI is about an hour and a half.
LBI is one of the more famous beaches along the Jersey Shore.

Visitnj.org calls LBI, “a beach lover’s paradise” and many towns and attractions are in close proximity to the beach making it a popular tourist attraction.

“LBI is one the most beautiful beaches we have in New Jersey which is why so many people like it,” Edgar Krupczak said.

Point Pleasant beach placed third in the poll near the top of almost every annual rankings list each year.

The beach has a family atmosphere and a boardwalk with a lot of attractions for kids according to visitnj.org, making it a very popular tourist destination for families with young children.

In 2011, Point Pleasant was named the No. 1 family beach by New Jersey Monthly.

“I remember going to Point Pleasant a lot when I was a kid and I still go there” said Nick Quinn. “It has a good board walk with a lot of things to do. I love Point Pleasant, it’s the best.”
