On Nov. 13, Katie Cooney was shivering in the bitter cold. The next day she was sweating in practically the same outfit that she wore the day before.

With the weather changing by the day, she just can’t decide what to wear.

“I just don’t get it,” she said. “Is it warm or is it cold? Make up your mind, Mother Nature.”

As the weather is inconsistently changing, so are frustrated college students whose wardrobes change on a day-to-day basis. With one day being 26 degrees and the next being 52, many students say they find it difficult to cope in this “bipolar weather.”

Students with a long day of classes say that they have difficulty feeling comfortable throughout the day because the weather has been changing so drastically in the matter of 24 hours.

Sophomore student Brie Bulger says that it is very aggravating to start her days feeling frozen and then becoming overheated in the same clothes just a few hours later.

By the time she leaves her last class on Thursdays, she says she is back to feeling frozen again.

“I never know what the right outfit is to wear anymore. I just can’t seem to remain comfortable throughout the day with this bipolar weather,” Bulger says.

Some students completely hate the cold because of the atmosphere and the effect that the cold has on their bodily appearance.

Sophomore student Laura Chapas says that she feels more scared of walking alone in the winter time and also hates the effect of the cold on her skin.

“A dark winter atmosphere makes me feel like I have to watch my back more,” Chapas says. “Not to mention, I get chapped lips and extremely dry skin.”

Other students say that they don’t mind adjusting to the weather changes and they actually enjoy it.

Freshman student Toni Kutne says that she loves the colder weather and seeing the leaves change color. She says she also appreciates the random days that are warmer than most.

“The scenery is so beautiful this time of year. It’s always a nice surprise to have a random warm day like it is today,” Kutne says.

Some students just want the cold weather to remain and are anxious for Christmas time and snowstorms.

Freshman student Charlie Clark feels that if the weather is going to be cold then he wants it to stay cold and is hopeful for snow days.

“I enjoy the atmosphere in the winter time and the snow, especially if it means class is canceled,” Clark says.

Businesses such as Dunkin Donuts are also hopeful for the cold weather to remain this season.

With harsh winter weather approaching, Dunkin Donuts manager Kamal Zahran says that he is excited for the winter weather to remain more consistent to help sell more coffee and hot chocolate.

“The colder it gets, the more people I get to make happy by warming them up with a nice hot drink and that is a great feeling”, Zahran says.
