RU QB says starting early helped

Tom Savage says starting as a true freshman created the player that he is today.

At half time of a football game verses Cincinnati, the Scarlet Knights were down 35-7. Senior quarterback Dom Natale threw three interceptions and the coaches then turned to Savage.

“When my coaches told me I was going in, it definitely caught me off guard.” Savage said, “I didn’t have much to lose – I went out there and did my best.”

Savage says the experience gave him a boost of confidence that is still with him. “It shows that if I could play well under those circumstances,” he said, “I can always play well.”

In the last two quarters, the freshman threw for 125 yards and one touchdown. His performance earned him the starter spot for the rest of the season.

Man vs. Paint

For aspiring soldier, Ben Homa, his first trip paintballing introduced him to an exciting venture.

The adventure of paintballing was his first glimpse of war and trauma. “Once I got over getting hit with a paintball, I enjoyed the thrill of combat,” he says.

During eighth grade, Homa went along with friends to Paintball Depot in West Milford, N.J. As they approached, “I was feeling anxious because I heard getting hit hurts,” says Homa.

They split into groups, learned how to use the equipment, and began the battle. “The whistle blew, we ambushed five enemies, and their flag was captured,” Homa recalls.

Returning towards their home base, paintballs flew across the field, hitting Homa’s behind. “The shot stung like hell, but I didn’t feel pain as we celebrated our victory,” he said.
