PARKING WOES CONTINUE
Rutgers students still can't find places to park, even with fewer students around.

Rutgers University students have mixed feelings about the parking conditions during the summer semester.

Rutgers student Ashley Vactor said it is difficult for Rutgers commuters to have enough change on them daily to pay the parking meters on College Avenue.

Parking meter spots may be more available during the summer semester, but the need for the right amount of change to prevent a parking ticket seems to be a problem for some students.

“One time I was running late for class and realized I had no change in my car for the meters," says Vactor, referring to a recent experience.

"This caused me to run into the student center and ask the cashiers if they could break a dollar,” she said.

Although the parking meters may be an inconvenient expenditure, Rutgers student Jackie Orlansky appreciates the fact that parking meter spots are more available during the summer semester as opposed to the fall or spring semesters.

Since there are fewer students attending classes during the summer, the parking meters are constantly vacant.

“Throughout the spring I would commute to school and arrive at the communication building and realize every spot was taken,” Orlansky says.

“This resulted in driving multiple laps around the block until a spot became available.”

Rutgers student Kevin Nielson says that the university should do summer semester students a favor by allowing them to park in any lot on campus as long as they have a parking pass.

“Students should be permitted to park in whatever lot they please even if their pass restricts them to one specific lot on campus,” says Nielson.

“If I have a parking pass on Livingston campus, then I shouldn’t be penalized if I decide to park close to my class on College Avenue.”
