PARKING COSTS CAUSE PROBLEMS
Rutgers students still can't find places to park, even with fewer students around.

Rutgers University summer students are frustrated with parking costs and availability.

Students are outraged that the Rutgers University summer parking permit only allows access to a handful of parking lots during evening hours.

The main campus, College Avenue, permits students to park in three parking lots after 4 p.m. and only one parking lot overnight.

Annoyed with the parking permit’s availability restrictions, some students have chosen to save money by leaving their cars in the streets.

For this to work the students must move their cars to different parts of town to avoid financial harassment from the New Brunswick Parking Authority, said Juleen Burke.

“From 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. I leave my car on Huntington Street where there are no meters," she said. "And then, after 6 p.m., when the meters are free, I leave my car overnight on George Street."

"I figure with the permit I’d still be moving my car from place to place so I don’t see why I should buy a permit,” said Burke.

Some students are even going as far as leaving their cars in the Saint Peters Hospital parking lot. For a $3 fee you can leave your car there for as long as you want, said Greg Weissman.
